Mac OS X Flush DNS

READ FIRST: You should make note of the Instructions below, and close all open Browser Windows and Close Your Email Software BEFORE flushing your DNS.

Flushing the DNS in Mac OS X is an easy process, but the steps taken will depend on which version of Mac OS you are running.

NOTE: If you are not sure of what Version Your Operating System is Simply try Both. When you have successfully Flushed your DNS you should get a message that confirms this.

If you are running Mac OSX 10.5 Leopard and Above, You need to do the following.

#1. Open up a command terminal: To open Terminal, navigate to your Applications folder, open Utilities, and double click on Terminal.


#2. Type the command “dscacheutil -flushcache” Hit Enter on your Keyboard.

#3. Shut Down Your Computer.

#4. To Ensure you Have Thoroughly Cleared Your cache we Suggest that you also Restart your Modem and Router (if using one). Turn off or Unplug Your Modem and Router. Wait at Least 3 Minutes Then Restart Your Modem (wait for it to fully boot up), Then Restart your Router (wait for it to fully Reboot), Then Restart Your Computer.


If you are running Mac OSX 10.5.1 or below, you need to do the following.

#1. Open up a command terminal: To open Terminal, navigate to your Applications folder, open Utilities, and double click on Terminal

#2. Type the command “lookupd -flushcache” Hit Enter on your Keyboard.

#3. Shut Down Your Computer.

#4. To Ensure you Have Thoroughly Cleared Your cache we Suggest that you also Restart your Modem and Router (if using one). Turn off or Unplug Your Modem and Router. Wait at least 3 Minutes Then Restart Your Modem (wait for it to fully boot up), Then Restart your Router (wait for it to fully Reboot), Then Restart Your Computer.
