A domain is the address people type to find your site, like yourbusiness.com. When you register one, you are reserving that name for a set period, usually a year at a time, so nobody else can use it while your registration is active. Once it is registered, you point it at your hosting and it starts working within a few hours as the change spreads across the internet.
If you already own a domain somewhere else, you can move it to NivaCity without losing it or any downtime for your site. Unlock the domain at your current registrar, get the transfer authorisation code (often called an EPP or auth code), and start the transfer from your Clientzone account. Most transfers complete within five to seven days, and your existing registration length carries over plus a year.
DNS is what tells the internet where your domain actually points, your website, your email, and anything else attached to it. You can manage DNS records for any domain in your Clientzone account, whether it is hosted with us or elsewhere. Point a domain at NivaCity hosting by updating its nameservers, or keep it elsewhere and just add the records you need.
Domain registration details are published in a public WHOIS record by default, including the registrant name, email, and phone number, unless privacy protection is applied. Where the extension supports it, we can replace your personal details with protected contact information in that public record, so your information stays out of spam lists and public lookups.
