Application Hosting
Magento hosting
Magento needs more than shared hosting. Here is how to run it properly on a VPS.
What is Magento?
Magento Open Source is a powerful e-commerce platform built for large catalogues, complex pricing and high sales volumes. It is now part of Adobe Commerce.
What Magento needs
- A search engine service (OpenSearch), which current Magento versions require
- Several gigabytes of memory for the store and search service together
- PHP and a MySQL database
- Root access to install and tune these services
Which plan fits
Current Magento versions need a search engine service that shared hosting does not run, and more memory than a shared plan offers. So for Magento we recommend a VPS, not shared hosting. VPS20 is a sensible starting point for a small store; choose a larger plan as your catalogue and traffic grow.
Getting started with Magento
Order a VPS and choose a Linux distribution.
Install the web server, PHP, database and OpenSearch that Magento needs, following Adobe's official installation guide.
Install Magento and point your domain at the server.
Would rather not do it yourself? Ask about a managed VPS package and we can set up the server for you.
Magento questions
Quick answers to things people ask before signing up.
- Not well. Current versions need a search engine service that shared hosting does not provide, and more memory than a shared plan has. A VPS is the right home for Magento.
- Yes. For small and medium stores, PrestaShop, OpenCart and WooCommerce all run well on shared hosting.
- Ask about a managed VPS package. We can install and harden the server and handle maintenance, on a quote basis.
