How .zw domain transfers work
Transferring a .zw domain (.co.zw, .org.zw or .ac.zw) works differently from most other extensions. This guide explains how transfers work in both directions.
Why .zw transfers need a release note
Section titled “Why .zw transfers need a release note”Most domain extensions, such as .com or .net, use a transfer code (often called an EPP or auth code) that you get from your current registrar and enter when you place the transfer order.
The .zw registry does not use transfer codes. Instead, your current registrar sends a release note directly to the new registrar. The release note confirms that the domain is being released, and the new registrar uses it to take over management of the domain.
Because the release note goes from one registrar to the other, there is no code for you to handle. Your part is asking your current registrar to send it to the right place.
Transferring a .zw domain to NivaCity
Section titled “Transferring a .zw domain to NivaCity”- Contact your current registrar and ask them to send a release note for your domain to [email protected].
- Place a domain transfer order in your Clientzone.
- Once we receive the release note, we check it and process the transfer. This usually takes 2 to 24 hours, as long as no further information is needed.
We can only accept a release note sent directly by your current registrar. A release note forwarded by you cannot be used, so if your registrar sends it to you, ask them to send it to [email protected] instead.
When the transfer completes, one year is added to your domain’s current expiry date at no extra cost. If the transfer fails, we refund what you paid for it.
Transferring a .zw domain away from NivaCity
Section titled “Transferring a .zw domain away from NivaCity”To move a .zw domain from NivaCity to another registrar, open a support ticket in your Clientzone (preferred), or email [email protected].
Let us know:
- The domain name you want to transfer
- The email address your new registrar wants the release note sent to
We will then send a release note for your domain to your new registrar, and they will complete the transfer on their side.
